Most people think they can see Amsterdam in an afternoon. That’s such a short time to see and experience one of the fun towns of Europe! Compared to the large cosmopolitan cities of the world, Amsterdam is small but packed with interesting and unique things to do.

A city break of 4 to 5 days would be good. At least you’re not going to be harassed with doing one activity after another. Amsterdam, a Girl’s Best Friend centers on fashion and fun.

Here are my suggestions:

  1. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. A touristy thing to do but wow, to be surrounded by all those diamonds is truly a delight! Besides, the quality of these diamonds are top notch. Make sure you learn your 4C’s before you go. So first, it’s off to the Diamond Museum. Then, to get to see some exquisite diamonds, drop by next door at Coster Diamonds. My favorite, though is Gassan.
  2. Museum of Bags and Purses. This may take an entire afternoon if you’re the type of woman who loves bags. Learn what women a few centuries ago used during the day and for special occasions. Start from the top floor and work your way down. I suggest the tour since bagfuls of anecdotes and stories will surely get you hooked. There are scheduled workshops by Ms Sigrid Ivo who speaks animatedly of her greatest passion.
  3. Spend a few hours with your girlfriends at Madame Tussauds!
  4. In the mood for a night of salsa? Then head over to Salsa Lounge.
  5. Shopping at de Bijenkorf, Magna Plaza or the Nine Streets (Negen Straatjes).
  6. Now in Amsterdam you can also create your own characteristic souvenir to take home: A creative and original way to get in touch with people and experience this very special city. Bring home your very own Delftsblue piece of art!
